Kyonishiki by the founder, Japanese painter Tokunaga Haruho
Our founder, Haruho Tokunaga, was inspired by the sight of carp streamers swimming in the sky above the burnt ruins, and with that inspiration in his heart, he created the carp streamer, a symbol of hope for the future. Since its founding in 1947, the company has cherished the value of happiness that colors special days, and in 1990, the first Kyo Nishiki was born. Overturning the definitions of black carp (magoi) and red carp (higoi), the company has incorporated red and purple into black carp, and used unique colors in red and blue carp to recreate the real Nishikigoi.
Beautiful colors and delicate patterns are only possible because each color is dyed by hand.
Using traditional hand-printing techniques, we have created the smallest carp streamer in our history. The delicate design is meticulously reproduced using a mold burned into the silkscreen. Unlike regular carp streamers, the mesh of the screen tends to become clogged easily with small pieces, and even the slightest deviation is not allowed. This smallest carp streamer requires time and skilled techniques. By combining the tradition of hand-printing and artisanal techniques, we present the "Tabletop Carp Streamer Kyo Nishiki," which harmonizes beauty and delicacy.
