[Song of May] Mitsuhashi Jun's Carp Streamer
A collaboration between tradition and art
By combining the traditional Japanese culture of carp streamers with art,
We collaborated with dye artist Jun Mitsuhashi to develop a new carp streamer.
Mitsuhashi Jun's soft, warm-hearted style of painting has given new value to carp streamers while respecting tradition. These colorful, warm-hearted carp streamers seem to have jumped out of the artwork.

A softly curved, plump and warm carp streamer
Although it has a typical carp streamer shape, it has no dorsal fin and is simple, but its unique form is attractive with its soft curves and large tail fin. The tail is sewn with a sewing machine, which makes it easier for air to accumulate in the stomach, making it easier to create the characteristic plump shape when swimming.

Atelier Project 2nd Edition [Song of Satsuki]
Due to the declining birthrate and housing conditions, carp streamers are becoming smaller and smaller, and the original sight of carp streamers swimming outside is becoming less common.
I believe that the original form of carp streamers is carp streamers swimming gracefully in the sky. The purpose of this project is to explore new designs for carp streamers that can fit into modern architecture, while thinking about carp streamers that can be passed down to the future so that the scenery of carp streamers swimming on Children's Day will not disappear.
The charm of Mitsuhashi Jun's work is the modern yet Japanese motifs and colors, which allow him to create modern carp streamers that are respectful of tradition. The gentle touch and soft colors look great in both Japanese and Western styles, as well as in modern home designs.

Soft brushstrokes and warm colors
The warm form created by the soft curves and colorful colors were devised by Jun Mitsuhashi.
By choosing from a number of design drawings and combining them, we created a new carp streamer.

In order to reproduce the soft brushstrokes and warm colors that are the charm of Mitsuhashi Jun's work, we did not use the stencil dyeing method that is often used for carp streamers, but instead attempted to reproduce the colorful hues and shades of color.
The result is a carp streamer with an attractive, rich color scheme that contrasts with the powerful traditional stencil dyeing.
