A collaboration between tradition and art

We have started selling "Mitsuhashi Jun's Carp Streamers" as the second release of "Atelier".

By combining the traditional Japanese culture of carp streamers with art, we collaborated with dyeing artist Jun Mitsuhashi to develop a new carp streamer.

Mitsuhashi Jun's warm and soft coloured style has given carp streamers a new and unprecedented value while still respecting tradition.

This colorful and warm carp streamer looks as if it has jumped out of the artwork.

A softly curved, plump and warm carp streamer

Although it has the typical shape of a carp streamer, it has been simplified by eliminating the dorsal fin, but its unique form, characterized by soft curves and a large tail fin, is what makes it so appealing.
By sewing the tail, air is more easily trapped in the stomach, giving the fish its characteristic plump shape when swimming.

A modern carp streamer that respects tradition

The charm of Mitsuhashi Jun's work lies in the modern yet Japanese motifs and colors used, resulting in modern carp streamers that are based on tradition.
The gentle touch and soft colors look great in Japanese, Western and modern home designs.

To connect the carp streamers that swim outside to the future

<Limited sale of 3m sets only>

Due to the declining birthrate and housing conditions, carp streamers are becoming smaller and smaller, and the original sight of carp streamers swimming outside is becoming less common.
I believe that the carp streamers' true form is the one that gracefully swims in the sky. In considering how to pass on carp streamers to the future so that the scene of carp streamers swimming on Children's Day will not disappear, the purpose of this project is to explore new designs for carp streamers that will fit in with modern architecture.

This time, we will only be selling 3m sets, as we want people to enjoy watching the carp streamers swimming outside at home.

We commissioned dyeing artist Jun Mitsuhashi to come up with the new design. While using traditional wax-resist dyeing techniques, he has expanded his work to include installations and three-dimensional objects as well as flat surfaces, and we felt that his delicate and gentle sense of color would be perfect for creating the new carp streamer design.

The warm form created by soft curves and the colorful colors were the brainchild of Jun Mitsuhashi.
After choosing a combination from a number of design drawings, a new carp streamer was created.

Soft brushstrokes and warm colors

In order to reproduce the soft brushwork and warm colors that are the charm of Mitsuhashi Jun's work, we did not use the stencil dyeing method that is often used for carp streamers, but instead attempted to reproduce the colorful colors and shades of color.
The result is a carp streamer with an appealing rich color scheme that contrasts with the powerful traditional stencil dyeing.

Koinobori production scene - from hand to hand -

The charm of Mitsuhashi Jun's work lies in the modern yet Japanese motifs and colors used, resulting in modern carp streamers that are based on tradition.
The gentle touch and soft colors look great in Japanese, Western and modern home designs.
