Cultural Heritage Jirozaemon Dolls
"Jirozaemon Hina" was created in Kyoto by doll maker Jirozaemon Hinaya during the Edo period.
Appearing in the Tale of Genji picture scroll, this doll is characterized by its black hair, round face with a hooked nose and eyes that are set in a curved shape. It monopolized the popularity of the doll in Edo for about 30 years, from the Horeki, Meiwa, Anei, Tenmei and Kansei eras, and "Jirozaemon Hina" was long held in high esteem as the mainstream Hina doll among nobles and daimyo, regardless of trends.
This work features the female writer, Shimizu Hisayuki.
The unique sense of Shimizu Hisayu and the unique elegance and beauty of the Heian period are expressed in this Hina doll, which becomes more and more appreciated the more you look at it. It will surely be a Hina doll decoration that touches the hearts of those who pick it up.
