A heartfelt gift for someone special

Associated with the pine, bamboo, and plum, plums have long been considered auspicious in Japan. The plum shape is known for its "tight knots that do not come undone easily," and so it is used for various celebratory occasions, including engagements and gift envelopes. Plum blossoms are also said to be flowers that bloom through harsh winters, and for these various reasons, they are imbued with three meanings: "a strong bond," "protection from evil," and "improvement of destiny."

Tosa handmade crafts [Tosa Washi]
The feelings of the papermaker are conveyed through the touch of his fingertips.
Warm washi paper, created by people and nature, is a part of our daily lives.

"Tosa Washi from Kochi Prefecture is one of Japan's three great washi papers, along with Echizen Washi from Fukui Prefecture and Mino Washi from Gifu Prefecture. It is made from kozo and mitsumata trees grown in the mountains of Tosa and water from Tosa's clear streams, such as the Niyodo River and Shimanto River. The nature of Tosa is equally woven into the paper, from the rough, wild texture that reveals the raw materials to the thin paper like Tengujo paper. Tosa kozo, which is produced in the mountainous areas in particular, has long fibers that easily tangle, making it thin yet strong.
