Japanese Celebrations <New Year>
New Year's Day is said to be the oldest of all Japanese events.
It took two weeks from the beginning of the New Year's preparations to clean and tidy up the house, and prepare decorations, a shrine for the New Year's deity, and offerings.
Since ancient times, there have been many events to ward off evil spirits and ward off misfortune at the change of seasons around the end of the year and the beginning of the new year because it was believed that at this time, demons (evil spirits) would emerge from the "Kimon" (demon gate) and cause trouble, resulting in illness and disasters.
Therefore, in order to ensure that children get through this period safely, people began giving them hagoita and hamayumi bows as "charms" on the first New Year.
