Japanese Celebration <Issho Mochi>
The Issho Mochi celebration is held along with the first birthday celebration and is a traditional event to pray for the child's future healthy growth.
The mochi made from one sho of glutinous rice (about 1.8 kg) weighs about 2 kg. The baby is asked to carry the mochi on his back, but sometimes the baby starts crying because it is too heavy, or he is unable to carry it. Children around the age of one are growing at different rates, so sometimes they are unable to carry it or stand up. Even with all of this, the Issho Mochi event itself is a joyous celebration.
