Japanese Celebration <Shichi-Go-San>
Shichigosan, which celebrates and prays for the healthy growth of children, is held at the ages of 3, 5 and 7, as the name suggests. In the past, child mortality was very high, so children were treated as "Kami no Uchi (God's children)" up until the age of 7. For this reason, a child's safe growth was a great joy, and parents could not help but pray for their healthy growth. At the age of 3, both boys and girls undergo the "Kamioki no Gi" ceremony. At the age of 5, only boys undergo the "Hakamagi no Gi" ceremony, and at the age of 7, girls undergo the "Obitoki no Gi" ceremony, which involves worship and a ritual.
When the children reach the age of seven, they are recognized by God as full-fledged people, and we give thanks to God for enabling them to grow up safely up to this point and pray for their continued healthy growth.
