The fabric we chose to incorporate fun colors and design elements was canvas. Canvas fabric seems far removed from the delicate nature of Hina dolls. Canvas is a stiff, thick cotton fabric with a large weave. However, from a design perspective, we felt that the Hina dolls' costumes, which are made up of a combination of straight lines, would create an edgier silhouette, and the matte texture, along with the colors, would bring out a unique personality never before seen.

So we asked Kurashiki Canvas, a long-established local store in Okayama, to provide the fabric.
This is a tasteful Hinamatsuri decoration that combines tradition with modern sensibilities.

Kurashiki Canvas has been weaving tradition and innovation since 1888.
An important part of its quality is the advanced yarn twisting technique that has been passed down for over 130 years. The supple yet strong yarn, created by twisting together several strands of 100% cotton raw yarn, is woven on a shuttle loom, a rare machine today, relying on the experience and intuition of artisans, and is reborn as Kurashiki Canvas, with beautifully trimmed ends known as selvedge.

This first-class canvas is full of warmth, nurtured by the natural gift of cotton and the passion of people.
The sturdy, gentle texture that speaks to the heart is proof that we have pursued authenticity with care, without sparing any effort, and without compromise.
