Japanese Celebration <Issho Mochi>
The Issho Mochi celebration is held along with the first birthday celebration and is a traditional event to pray for the child's future healthy growth.
The mochi, made from one sho of glutinous rice (approximately 1.8 kg), weighs approximately 2 kg. The baby is asked to carry the mochi on their back, but sometimes the weight makes them cry, or they are unable to carry it. Children around the age of one are still growing at different rates, so they may not be able to carry it or stand up. Even with these factors, the Issho Mochi event itself is a joyous celebration.
