Rin-chan's Hinamatsuri

Although winter is still lingering inside our homes, it's now March and we're finally beginning to feel the breath of spring.
Today is Hinamatsuri.

Tonight, the whole family will enjoy the Hinamatsuri party,
In the afternoon, we prepare snacks and that's when the girls' get-together begins in our house.

The children have become very good at singing the "Girl's Festival" song that they learned at nursery school.
The Hina dolls have been closely watching over Rin-chan's growth over the past month.

The Hina doll that I was scared of until last year has finally become my favorite this year.
That's also a welcome development.

[On days like this, dress up a little special and enjoy the celebratory mood ♪]

The easy-to-wear HAREGI has a Japanese-style layered front and is made from soft, crepe fabric, making it very cute.
It's delicate and stylish, but can also be washed in the washing machine, so it's useful for special occasions. The auspicious rabbit pattern goes well with any outfit, and it's stylish, so I always have my daughter wear it for small Japanese celebrations.

And on the table there are a variety of Hinamatsuri snacks lined up.
Rin-chan is in high spirits and humming.

Not only the food on the Hinamatsuri table, but the snacks too are gorgeous and delightful.

This year, we have prepared some "amazake" (sweet sake) to celebrate Hinamatsuri.

Not only is Amazake safe for children to drink, but it also excels at creating a gorgeous presentation. The pale and cute white color looks stylish on any table.

This is Rin-chan's first time drinking amazake.
I chose the "Fruit Amazake" as it looked easy to drink.

What does it taste like? What does it smell like?
I'm also curious about trying new drinks for the first time.

When it comes to drinks on Hinamatsuri, the first thing that comes to mind is "amazake," but why did we start drinking it?

In fact, originally, the custom on the Girls' Festival was to serve "Toukashu," made by soaking peach petals in sake, rather than Amazake.

Peaches are said to have the power to ward off evil spirits, and are used in various Shinto rituals. The "Peach Festival" was originally a celebration to protect children from evil spirits, which were easily absorbed during the change of seasons.
Also, peaches are said to be a tree of immortality and longevity that can lead to life to 100 years, and so they were considered to be auspicious. This custom was imbued with the wish for longevity.

Peach blossom wine did not catch on widely, and instead, from around the middle of the Edo period, "white sake" made by steaming rice and koji in mirin, adding shochu and aging it became popular. However, white sake, which has a high alcohol content, is not suitable for children.

So "Koji Amazake," which is non-alcoholic and easy to drink, became the drink of choice for children on Hinamatsuri. Nutritious "Amazake" is the perfect drink for the Girls' Festival, which is a celebration of prayers for children's health and growth.

It was a happy time with everyone engrossed in conversation and laughter never stopping.

I usually use plastic cups, but today I tried a glass cup for the first time.

As I feel their growth, I realize that a year passes in the blink of an eye as I fill them with so many memories.

Today I received a wonderful present from my grandmother.
Since Rin-chan loves singing and dancing, she received a song as a gift.

I was deeply moved by this unprecedented gift.

Rin-chan has begun to be able to read a little bit of hiragana, and now she reads it out loud on the lyrics card, pointing at the letters with her little hand, making sure to check each sound.

"Rin-chan, I love you."

It was a moment that touched Mama Morinchan's heart as well.

The Girls' Festival is a time to pray for healthy growth.

When you're young, a year of growth seems to pass in the blink of an eye, but
I am reminded once again that every year will always be a special and precious memory.
