[Pattern: Kikko - Tortoiseshell]

The "Kikko (tortoiseshell) pattern" is one of Japan's traditional designs, a continuous hexagonal motif inspired by the shape of a turtle's shell. As its name suggests, it originates from the "turtle" and has been cherished since ancient times as a symbol of longevity and prosperity.
Among temari, the "Kikko" pattern is particularly delicate and beautiful, created by carefully intertwining threads to form connected hexagons. Its well-ordered shape and rhythmic quality bring a sense of calm to the beholder.
1. Symbol of Longevity and Good Fortune
As its name suggests, the "Kikko" pattern mimics the hexagonal shape of a turtle's shell. Turtles have long been considered symbols of longevity and good health, as seen in the saying, "Cranes live for a thousand years, turtles for ten thousand." This pattern embodies the wish for "may you live long and happily, always in good health."
2. Symbol of Stability and Prosperity
The geometric pattern of regularly arranged hexagons represents a continuous form, signifying "prosperity," "family prosperity," and "family safety."
Additionally, likened to the strong and unbreakable shell of a turtle, it also carries the meaning of "self-protection" and serves as a charm.
3. Pattern of Prestige and Elegance
The Kikko pattern has been used in clothing and architectural decorations since the Heian period, and is known for its high prestige and elegant impression.

As a gift for the elderly, imbued with wishes for longevity, prosperity, and protection from evil, or as a celebratory item for life's milestones (such as coming of age, marriage, or a 60th birthday).
For baby celebrations, it is particularly recommended for "O-kuizome" (first meal ceremony) and shrine visits, which include wishes for longevity.
It can also be given without reservation for housewarmings and moving celebrations.

Japan's Color "Ai" (Indigo)
— Deep Serenity, Color of Protection and Sincerity —

Indigo blue is a color of deep, quiet beauty born from Japan's nature and daily life. Known as "Japan Blue" for centuries, it has been cherished as a proud traditional Japanese color worldwide.
Indigo and Sacredness — Its Role in Shinto Rituals and Folklore
Indigo dyeing has been believed to possess the power to repel insects, preserve, and ward off evil, and has long been used for baby clothes, samurai attire, and travelers' garments. Furthermore, indigo, as a "color that purifies impurity," has been chosen for clean attire to approach sacred places.
Natural Antibacterial and Insect Repellent Effects
Indigo leaves are believed to have antibacterial and insect-repellent properties, which is why people in the past frequently used indigo-dyed cloth for everyday items like baby clothes and work clothes. Its natural safety and ability to maintain cleanliness are being re-evaluated even today.
Meaning as an insect repellent and evil warder
Indigo blue has also been believed since ancient times to be a "color that wards off evil." Indigo-dyed cloth is sometimes used in shrines and for amulets, and it has taken root in daily life as a "protective color" that safeguards one's body.
As a sacred and prayer cloth
Indigo dyeing has been used in Shinto rituals as a cloth embodying the life of nature. It has been used for offerings to deities and for miko (shrine maidens) attire, and has been considered a sacred color representing purification, rebirth, and cleansing.
Meaning and Message of Indigo
🔵 Sincerity, Trust, Deep Reflection
🔵 Silence, Serenity, Beauty of Emptiness
🔵 Protection, Exorcism, Cleansing Power
🔵 Mature Beauty, Inner Strength
Indigo is not merely a color;
its charm lies in the "depth gained through repeated dyeing."
It is like the color of life, as people deepen through experience.
The Spirit of Indigo Residing in Temari
Indigo temari embodies
quiet strength, tranquil beauty, and a deep prayer that clears the mind.
As a gift for life's milestones, allowing one to reflect and quietly look forward.
With respect for those who have walked sincerely.
And for a new baby, a wish that "they will be protected and grow strong and beautiful."
Indigo temari is a jewel in the palm of your hand that transcends time, embracing and protecting the human heart.
Beyond its beauty, indigo, which has lived among people throughout history, possesses a gentle warmth, like nature itself, instilled in each piece with a unique character that only handcraft can express, such as subtle variations and depth.
It is a gift that gently protects our hearts and bodies, then as now.

Notes on Kurashiki Temari
Kurashiki Temari are carefully handcrafted one by one. There are slight differences in the texture of the materials, how the threads are stretched, and how the patterns appear, giving each piece a unique character. We hope you will enjoy these qualities after understanding the following points:
●Since each item is handmade, there may be slight individual differences in color, pattern, and shape.
●When natural materials or plant-dyed threads are used, the color may change over time. Please enjoy this as part of its unique character.
●They are vulnerable to strong force, impact, and getting wet, so please handle them with care.
●Prolonged storage in direct sunlight may cause fading. Please display them in a place where they are not exposed to direct sunlight as much as possible. Temari's charm lies in the warmth of craftsmanship and the unique expressions found in subtle differences. We hope you will gently appreciate the unique character of each "temari."
