An extremely artistic Nishikigoi painted by Japanese painter Tokunaga Haruho.


"Kenjo Hand-dyed Yuzen Koi Kyo Nishiki" is a realistic depiction of the graceful figure of a Nishikigoi carp, painted by the brush of Japanese painter Tokunaga Haruho. The unique hues of Nishikigoi are dyed using a seven-color gradient, and the entire scale is decorated with fan-shaped gold. To make them look more realistic, each carp is dyed with a different pattern - black, red, or blue. The streamers, which have a theme of water and sky, feature a traditional Japanese indigo gradient with auspicious thousand paper cranes scattered across them. The material is a special fabric with a three-dimensional cross weave. This new material shines silver-white when exposed to sunlight.

　

　

Tokunaga Haruho, founder of Tokunaga Koinobori, is a representative Japanese painter from Okayama.

 

Learning from the famous bijin-ga (portraits of beautiful women) artist Ito Shinsui, Haruho shocked the art world with her unprecedented refined and elegant carp streamers, painted with the delicate brushwork characteristic of Japanese painting and a unique worldview.

Representative carp streamers include "Celebratory Carp, Auspicious Sign" and "Presented Hand-dyed Yuzen Carp, Kyo Nishiki."
A hugely popular work that has transcended the ages and continues to be a long-selling product.

　

　
When people think of "Tokunaga Koinobori," many will think of "Kyoto Nishiki," a carp streamer with a design that has not faded since its release and which continues to be a long-selling item.
The polyester jacquard fabric is light and lively. The carp is powerful and swims well. The gold leaf is applied to the scales, which, combined with the luster and color of the fabric, gives the carp a more three-dimensional and powerful feel. As the name "Yuzen" suggests, the classic masks and hand-printed "nishikigoi" (carp streamers) by Japanese painters are reproduced, making the carp streamers look beautiful and traditional. The presence and elegance of the carp streamers are said to be universal symbols of carp streamers.

The "Kyotsuru Streamer" is a simple design with a thousand paper cranes painted on a light and dark blue background, but it is well balanced with the vivid colors of Kyo Nishiki. Since it is a two-tone blue background, if you write the family crest and name in blue, the blue gradation like the sky will flutter and sway above the impressive carp streamer. The white color of the fabric shines silver-white, making it look like the family crest is floating.

1992/Antarctica

The Kyotsuru streamers and Kyo Nishikigoi streamers were written with messages from the people of "Kohitsujien" in Maizuru City. With the cooperation of the 32nd Antarctic Research Expedition, the children's dreams came true and the carp streamers flew in the Antarctic. When the Belgian team heard that the carp were "swimming in the sky," they came to see it, and it was the first time that a carp streamer had flown in the Antarctic.




1996/France
"Tokunaga Koi Swim in Paris" was exhibited at the 1996 Paris Collection by Paris-based Japanese designer Shinichiro Arakawa. The traditional Japanese culture of carp streamers was vividly promoted at the international fashion show, and Tokunaga Koi wrapped around the models gracefully danced on stage, captivating the audience.
　
　
2003/France
In May 2003, the "France-Japan Cultural Center" in Paris, France, which introduces Japanese culture, held the "Koinobori 2003" event to express wishes for peace. For about a month, 1,000 carp streamers were flown in various places in Paris, conveying Japanese traditional culture and wishes for peace to the people of France.
