Five-colored streamers have long been believed to ward off evil spirits and act as a talisman, and even today they remain a standard feature on many carp streamers.
Why is it believed that five-colored streamers ward off evil spirits?
Its origin is deeply connected to the five colors.
The origin of the five colors comes from the theory of Yin-Yang and the five elements established in ancient China. The theory of the five elements is the idea that everything on earth is classified into five elements of the five elements. The five colors are the representation of these five elements. The five colors are blue, red, yellow, white, and black (purple) , and each corresponds to the theory of the five elements and is thought to govern all things in heaven and earth.
In addition to colors, there are many cultures in Japan that relate to the five elements.

Hand-printing techniques by artisans
Daily changes in temperature and humidity have a big impact on the final color. Using intuition cultivated over many years, we carefully consider the daily changes in temperature and humidity and adjust the dye mixture. To create colorful carp streamers, we use several different colors and molds to dye them with a rich texture.

The final process of making carp streamers is "sewing," which requires three different types of sewing machines to sew each beautiful line with meticulous skill. The careful finish is so well-established that it is said to be a true work of art.
