Plaid means a checked pattern, and as the word suggests, this is a modern take on the classic British checked pattern. The overall color combination is old-fashioned, but the light color combination creates a sense of openness, evoking the KIMONO Hina style. The rough texture of the fabric and the texture of the folding screen washi paper create a fashionable depth.

Have more fun with colors! Fabric

The fabric we chose to incorporate fun colors and design was canvas. Canvas fabric seems far removed from the delicate Hina dolls. Canvas is a thick, sturdy cotton fabric with a large weave. Looking at it from the perspective, we thought that the costumes of the Hina dolls, which seem to be made up of straight lines, would create an edgy silhouette, and the matte texture, along with the colors, would bring out a unique personality that had never been seen before.

The fabric was then requested from Kurashiki Canvas, a long-established local company in Okayama.
By combining tradition with modern sensibilities, we have created a tasteful Hinamatsuri decoration.

Kurashiki Canvas has been weaving tradition and innovation since 1888.
Advanced yarn twisting techniques have been handed down for over 130 years and play an important role in ensuring quality. Several 100% cotton raw yarns are twisted together and fanned to create a yarn that is both flexible and strong. The craftsmen rely on their experience and intuition to weave the yarn on a shuttle loom, which is now rare, and the yarn is reborn as Kurashiki Canvas with a beautiful, neat appearance called selvage.

First-class canvas is overflowing with warmth, nurtured by the natural gift of cotton and the passion of people.
The sturdy, gentle texture that speaks to the heart is proof that the product has been carefully crafted, with great care and without sparing any effort, in the pursuit of authenticity.

We focused on the balance between texture and time.

Even so, the KIMONO looks flashy, but it is designed with a wide folding screen and pedestal, and the extra space enhances the interior design, making it a spacious and comfortable display despite its compact size. Because it is a decoration, it is designed faithfully to the sensibility of the beauty of wabi-sabi.

The folding screen is made by combining two low two-panel folding screens.
The result is a wide and spacious look.
