[Pattern: Asanoha (hemp leaf)]

One of Japan's traditional patterns, it is a continuous hexagonal pattern geometrically representing the shape of a hemp leaf. Continuous patterns are believed to symbolize longevity, eternity, and immortality.
Hemp has been an essential plant in Shinto rituals since ancient times, used in shrine ropes (shimenawa) and offerings (nusa) before the gods, and considered a "sacred fiber where gods reside." The asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern, too, has been cherished in Japan since ancient times as a symbol of divine protection, applied to clothing and tools.
1. Symbol of Growth and Health
Hemp leaves grow straight and quickly. Therefore, this pattern is often chosen for baby clothes, swaddles, and celebratory kimonos, with the wish that "children grow up healthy and strong."
2. Ward Against Evil
Hemp has been considered a sacred plant since ancient times and was believed to have the power to ward off evil spirits. The regular, sharp geometric patterns were also thought to have protective meaning, and have been used on baby clothes and amulets.
3. Auspicious Pattern
Due to the excellent balance and beauty of the pattern, it also carries meanings of prosperity, success, and family safety, making it suitable for display anywhere.
Meaning and Wishes of the Asanoha Pattern
🌿 Straightforward growth
🌿 Healthy vitality
🌿 Protection against evil and misfortune
🌿 Pure heart and body
This pattern, especially used on baby clothes, swaddling cloths, and undergarments, carries
a parent's deep prayer for their child to "grow up healthy and strong."
It is a pattern of prayer that gently supports the strength of life and watches over growth.
Furthermore, it is not only a gift for babies but also perfect as a farewell gift for those embarking on a journey or an encouragement for those who have aged, signifying "there's still much growth to come." The asanoha pattern is a gentle yet powerful form of prayer that illuminates every moment of life.

Since this pattern symbolizes "healthy growth" and "warding off evil," it is especially recommended for baby showers and children's celebrations such as festivals and birthdays.
It is also a suitable pattern for gifts for weddings and life's milestones.

Japan's Color: "Red"
― Japan's protective color that guards life and brings blessings ―
Red is one of the most powerful and meaningful colors in Japan. The light of the sun, the warmth of fire, the warmth of blood—.
It holds the power as the source of life, symbolizing the healthy existence of all living things.
Since ancient times, red has been believed to ward off evil and misfortune, and has been widely used in shrine torii gates, talismans, ceremonial decorations, and even in baby clothes and swaddling cloths. This is because "red" was cherished as a color that dispels evil, purifies, protects life, and celebrates and blesses the birth and growth of new life.
Meaning and Message of Red
🔴 Life, warmth, vitality
🔴 Symbol of warding off evil, protection, and regeneration
🔴 Color of love, passion, and bonding
🔴 Color of joy, celebration, and new beginnings
Red is the color symbolizing the source of life, connected to the sun, fire, and the warmth of blood.
Its strong, bright hue has been believed since ancient times to possess the power to ward off evil and protect life.
The reason red has been chosen for celebrations, Shinto rituals, and baby clothes is due to the “prayer for vitality” imbued within it.
Red also represents maternity, passion, and emotional connection.
It is also the color of bonds between people, like warmly embracing someone.
The Heart Residing in the Red of Temari
The red of the temari is not merely vibrant and beautiful.
It is as if it is a color of prayer that cherishes life and celebrates the future.
A red temari is like a charm that wishes for the healthy growth of children and the happiness of loved ones.
And it gently conveys the sender's sincere feelings and warmth.
A symbol of gentleness and strength, connecting lives.
That is the heart of "red" contained in a temari.

Folk Art Nurtured in Kurashiki, a City of Culture
Kurashiki Temari was born out of a fascination with "Higo Temari," a traditional craft from Kumamoto. Higo Temari are elaborate temari with colorful threads creating intricate geometric patterns, showcasing highly skilled techniques. The creator of Kurashiki Temari was so moved by its beauty that they elevated it into a rustic and gentle expression suitable for the land of Kurashiki.
The quiet demeanor and the rustic, warm texture are the charms of Kurashiki Temari.
Kurashiki, known as a "city of beauty" with numerous museums and craft galleries, has a cultural foundation that has supported the handcrafted Kurashiki Temari, allowing it to be slowly and carefully nurtured.
Each "Kurashiki Temari" is carefully handcrafted.
Kurashiki Temari are carefully handcrafted one by one.

First, the core, traditionally made of rice hulls, is wrapped in paper and shaped into a sphere. The core is then wound with multiple layers of thread to stabilize it and give it roundness and elasticity.
To achieve the "Kurashiki Temari" aesthetic, we use cotton threads dyed ourselves.
